The ladies of Hollywood are the driving force behind the fashion style for the young women shopping for prom dresses this year, and it’s no secret that, as the “red carpet look” continues to become more glamorous and feminine, so will the 2008 prom fashions.
Glam Is the Word
Although it’s hard to
pinpoint one trend that covers prom, glamour is the overarching theme
for 2008 — much of which is inspired by Hollywood and the stars we see
in magazines and movies and on TV. There’s no doubt that what we see in
Hollywood is what we’ll see on girls going to prom and other special
occasions.
These trends focus on beauty from head-to-toe, and the styles are more ladylike and fitted, creating a more feminine look. A-line and strapless dresses — in both long and short lengths — are popular choices and will continue to be well into 2008. Not only are they popular, but they are also flattering on almost any body type.
The Long and the Short of It
Long, formal dresses
always take center stage, but short, flirty dresses are following
closely behind and growing in importance as the preferred choice. Short
dresses this year will be accentuated with bubble hems, as well as
asymmetrical hems — following the trends inspired by Hollywood. T-length
dresses are in style for bridesmaids and are also carrying their
popularity over to prom.
Another style coming back into the picture is the baby doll dress. This aligns more with everyday wear, but don’t be surprised if this trend turns into formalwear for prom and other social occasions. We will continue seeing the empire waist, both in long and short dresses. As with the empire waist, there will be several trends crossing over between the long dresses and the short dresses.

A WRONGFUL-DEATH lawsuit against husband, Jeffrey Soffer, has now been dropped, his
lawyer has revealed.
The by the widow of Soffer's friend Lance Valdez, Dasha Gogoleva, who claimed that the property billionaire was culpable in her late husband's death. She alleged he had been at the controls of the helicopter that Valdez died in when it crashed in the Bahamas in November 2012, without a valid helicopter licence - something that Soffer has strenuously denied.
"There was no notice [that the suit was being withdrawn]," a source told the "Jeff was preparing to respond to, and deny, the allegations. Before he could, the suit was voluntarily withdrawn without warning."
The hotel magnate's team was keen to assert, however, that the withdrawal was not the result of an out-of-court settlement.
"We were not surprised by the decision to withdraw this lawsuit, which was riddled with factual errors and unfounded accusations," Soffer's lawyer Bob Martinez said in a statement. "The case collapsed just a few weeks after the lawsuit was filed - before we even had a chance to respond - confirming that it was… frivolous."

WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY is one of those space-age-sounding concepts
that we may have imagined we'd be wearing by 2020 had we envisioned
that year from the Eighties, but it isn't something generally
thought of as stylish - until now. New York label has become the first big-name fashion brand to
team up with a technology giant - in this case Intel - to create a
piece of wearable tech with a cooler edge.
From Google's much lauded (and vilified) Glass - featuring a
camera and screen worn on the face - which is set to be released
this year, to T-shirts and bras that track your heartbeat and
weight gain respectively, our clothes have been incredibly busy
doing things that they really don't need to of late. Currently the
preserve of sporty types keen to make the most of every step they
take - and monitor their vital statistics while doing so - wearable
technology is set to hit the mainstream this year, and fashion
brands are bound to want to make them more aesthetically
pleasing.
In September 2012, Diane von Furstenberg collaborated with
Google to , but this new release will be fashion's
first specially designed product. Although it has not yet been
confirmed what the piece will look like, or what it will do for
your life, the "smart bracelet" will be released at Barneys, reports, in collaboration with the
CFDA (of which Von Furstenberg is chair) and designed by Opening
Ceremony.
"The first big story [from the Consumer Electronics Show 2014]
is the real inflection point for wearable devices," Accenture's
John Curran told the "It is about these
devices moving from niche applications and early adopters into much
more mainstream products."
Prada has cast rising actor Dane Dehaan as its spring/summer 2014 menswear star, his second campaign apperance for the label, confirming that his is a name to know indeed. Miuccia Prada has an almost psychic eye for hiring future stars in her campaigns, always capturing them at the cusp of their big-time successes. Previous Prada campaign alumnus includes Malaika Firth, Lindsey Wixson and Sasha Pivovarova, while the designer's contemporary label Miu Miu counts Mia Wasikowska and Hailee Steinfeld as its former faces.
So who is Dehaan? Hailing from Pennsylvania, he first became known for his roles in television shows In Treatment and True Blood, before being cast as Ryan Gosling's troubled son in The Place Beyond The Pines. The 27-year-old - who is married to actress Anna Wood - starred as Lucien Carr, lynchpin of the original beat poets, in Kill Your Darlings, playing opposite Daniel Radcliffe. The two appear together in intimate sex scenes that have attracted mass attention since the film was released in December last year. Next up is his part in the Amazing Spider Man sequel, in which he features as the villainous Harry Osborne. This week the 27-year-old American was shortlisted for accolade, alongside Léa Seydoux and Lupita Nyong'O, suggesting that awards recognition is not far off.
Acting aside, Dehaan is also writing his first screenplay, a dark comedy, although he maintains that it isn't ready for public consumption yet. Whether as a writer or actor, Dehaan is stardom bound.
